#518 Coming Clean

Thank you all once again for the well wishes on my speedy recovery. It's a bit of slow going and some days are okay and some are not. -Like today as I write this, I took the day off from my regular work schedule. I promise I won't push myself too much on the comic until I'm fully recovered. Speaking of the comic, as you can tell by the storyline that we are fast approaching the time when Emrys will be losing his virginity. As such, a story like this is hard to tell without...well...being a little bit graphic. I have always considered Bohemian Nights as R rated if it was a film. -At times full frontal nudity and somewhat suggestive scenes. (sometimes very suggestive...) So just a disclaimer that we're on track for some more of the same very soon. A couple of people suggested that I go further. -Show everything. Something on the lines of the web comic The Rock Cocks.  The problem is, I'm not sure I want to alienate some readers who may not be coming back necessarily for that kind of stuff. Not that I don't enjoy the Rock Cocks. Its a great comic. But this comic is about the characters...who happen to fuck sometimes. (Hard to tell a story about people in their twenties without it, actually...) So I guess I'm wavering back and forth as to how much to 'sometimes' show. I have some very touching and also funny moments with Emrys and Stephanie written and coming up pretty soon, but some of the scenes are going to be a little hard to navigate without showing quite a bit. So I'm wondering what some of you out there think? Keep the level of what is shown here as is, or, -and only on occasion when the story dictates it, show a bit more.  I still have a couple of weeks, believe it or not, before we get to that point in the story so I'll be mulling it over trying to come up with a definitive level for the comic. Your input is greatly appreciated. That's all for now.

  1. First: Love the comic. Probably spent an entire day catching up when I first started reading it.

Second: I enjoy the current R rating that the comic is currently heading, though the older seem a little silly) and personally wouldn’t mind a NC-17 rating if the situation calls for it. If, however, you are worried about making some readers uncomfortable you could keep the same rating, implying the sex took place and then adding a little side story on your Patreon.

Thanks for the reply. I’m glad you enjoy the comic. You bring up a good point. One which I’ve actually been kicking around in my head to show the more explicit scenes in Patreon. This might work out that way.

  2. just discovered this comic and I love it, currently trying to catch up, I have made it to #168 so i got a ways to go

I’m glad you discovered the comic and are enjoying the back pages. The artwork is a little rough for those first couple of hundred posts but it gets better. Hope you continue enjoying it.

  3. Looks like the trap is set, baited, and about to spring. Poor Emrys? 😉

Glad to hear you’re on the mend; everyone over the age of forty (maybe younger) can sympathize with you regarding up and down days when it comes to recovery, so it’s good to hear you’ll look after your health.

Regarding the rating, I figure it’s up to the creator to set their boundaries and if I don’t like what’s going on I can skip it. I don’t generally read comics that are too explicit, but I’ve seen some that go into NC-17 territory for the right reasons and I’m not bothered by it. Graphic violence tends to turn me off more than anything else (I’m looking at you, Game of Thrones), but I don’t typically get interested in stories that have an abundance of that sort of content, so it’s not usually a problem. Right now you have posted “NSFW” at the top of the page, so I think that allows you a fair bit of coverage when it comes down to any disclosure concerns.

TL;DR – Do what you’re comfortable with for the right reasons and I think your readers will know that you’ve done it to tell the story the way it needs to be told and not for shock value. You’ve done great for over 500 pages now, so I’ve got faith in your storytelling chops. 😉

Thank you so much for your re comments. You’re right. The story drives the comic. Most people should know this is an adult comic in story as well as visual content. -A development I fully enjoy and support. It’s just those people who read the comic since it first came out and was more humor oriented back then may not fully be on board. But that is the direction I feel this is heading towards. (With some humor thrown in from time to time, of course.)
–Poor Emrys? I wish my first time was with someone that looked like Stephanie. 🙂
      (TL;DR ?)

      1. TL;DR is Internet slang(?) for “Too Long; Didn’t Read”. It usually follows large blocks of text, presumably not spaced appropriately, because some people don’t want to read the “wall” and just skip to the conclusion.

Stumped me years and I finally had to ask a friend to interpret it for me. Now I use it from time to time when it seems appropriate. 🙂

  4. I wont lie. I’d love to see Stephanie naked and engaging in some horizontal refreshment. That said, I like Kace’s idea of showing more explicit material on Patreon if you feel the need to go there. But if it’s shown here, that works for me too. 😉 Your artwork has come a long way since the first strips and I’m really enjoying it. Looking forward to more.

I won’t lie, either. I’d love to draw those pages as well. You’re the second person to mention explicit material on Patreon. And although the comic will still have fairly explicit stuff from time to time, maybe showing…well…everything might be a good idea that way.
I’m glad you enjoy the comic.

  6. CHEEEEEEECKKKK!!!!!! NOW!
