If she has to go work at her job today, she’s really between a rock and a hard place. It reminds me of William Shakespeare’s “How strange it is that men put an enemy in their mouths that stealeth away their brains.” (Please pardon the antiquated English and the gender generalization.)
Beth, you’re both still young. It takes a lot of hard work and patience to take trips abroad unless you happen to be making very good money. On the upside, it does make the trip that much more special, because you know how much you accomplished to take the trip. 🙂
Emrys, if you can’t give her these things now you may find her leaving in the future no matter what she says now. Your inability to satisfy whims will fester.
Good! Beth can now get an education that will allow her to earn a large income with a hefty work schedule that in a decade or two will allow her to pay off that education and save some money to allow her to take a vacation to Spain. You know, like an adult.
Let me just say that as a recovering alcoholic, I can understand and sympathize with what Devon is going through. I hope she learns from her mistake. I also hope she learns to stay sober just one day at a time, whenever possible be grateful, and when not, act as if one is grateful. That lifestyle keeps one spiritual enough to overcome the temptation to relapse. It’s worked for me for over 50 months.

I really like Beth’s facial expressions, especially in the second panel. 🙂
