830 Divide and Conquer

Been a super busy week catching up on stuff with work and home. Sorry I haven't responded to other people's comments this week. I should be mostly caught up with the daily crap of life now. Next I'll try and get the latest Patreon bonus comic out by week's end as well.

  1. I’m glad Emrys is going for a walk with friends. But what will he do with his dinner reservation?

    1. As I said earlier, my bet is he let his reservation to Jeff with Jojo.

Yes, it would be a shame to let that reservation go to waste, but it’s not critical to the story.

  2. Jeff the superhero (It would be awesone if Jeff and Jojo go to the dinner reservation…)

Please at least let Mark’s Spirit stop Emerys from jumping (if the impulse grabs him…)

      Or the three of them.

  3. Wow, you really know how to tug at a guy’s heartstrings, Eric. πŸ™

All of the comments have been solidly against Beth and now I’m having doubts. Maybe Shannon was right all along, I don’t know, but I hope the wonder team of Jeff and JoJo”Crazy Philosopher” can brin”Sunny ‘tude” g Emrys back into the sunlight, metaphorically speaking.

What’s going on in that mind of yours, Beth?

    1. Beth had apparently made up her mind that she was going to go through with pursuing Emrys romantically. Shannon even warned her that if she wanted him, she had to be totally committed to the pursuit, otherwise she should tone down the flirting. Instead she cranked it up to 11, letting Emrys know she was totally interested, and right when it looked like she had him locked, along comes temptation in the form of Robert, and she just can’t resist his advances. Emrys isn’t totally blameless in that he made the reservation before he knew she was available, but the way Beth seemed to nonchalantly walk away from the group after being called out by Shannon, who, again, WARNED HER to tone down the flirting if she wasn’t committed to making Emrys her man, makes her seem like a non-caring jerk.

I have no doubt Robert will try to sleep with Beth. Whether Beth gives into temptation or not will determine whether she’s grown enough to get out of her pattern,

Thracecius: We may yet know what’s going on inside Beth. Don’t judge her too harshly. One theme to take away from all this is that every one has flaws.

      1. I don’t know how my comment got screwed up, but it was supposed to read -Crazy Philosopher- Jeff and -Sunny ‘tude- Jojo, because that’s short of how I see Jeff and JoJo. πŸ™‚

Eric, my having doubts about Beth are not the same as me passing judgement, though I understand how my comment could be taken as such without further context, so plea se know that I understand that we’re all human andmake mistakes. πŸ™‚ I’m still sitting squarely in the Emrys and Beth corner, it’s just hard to watch a romance, that seemed to be on a taut line to blossoming, all of the sudden wriggle off course like a demented slinky. I’ve never had friends like Beth before, aor any of the cast really, so I guess I’m having harder time interpreting their thougbht and emotional processes. To be fair though, I’m ecoming more and more of a recluse as I grow older, and my social skills have never been very good when it comes to women (especially if I find her attractive), so I can identify with Emrys in many ways, though notably not his relationship with Stephanie.

I’m actually not drawing and conclusions on Beth, I’m simply not that smart and don’t know her tell, enough I’m just disappointed and it makes me extremely sympathetic to Emrys’ loneliness; the past year has made me acutley aware of this, unfortunately. Yes, he shouldn’t have made that dinner reservation, but when I was in my twenties, had his gambling winnings AND a gal like Beth was flirting with me like that for days? Yeah, I may have easily done something equally stupid. Being a young romantic can be really difficult, and I’m not sure it gets any easier as you age, you just start to become a hopeless romantic or worse, jaded.

On a lighter note, from the way you described Beth’s romantic relationship behavior, I guess an (ppropriate basketball nickname for her would be Rimshot; she’s always close to the hoop, but never delivers that winning basket. πŸ™‚

I apologize. I didn’t mean to imply that you didn’t know the characters. In fact, your insight in them is really quite amazing. (and very gratifying). But I’m sure it comes from a deep understanding of Emrys. It’s very tough being the awkward and shy guy around women. -Most of the time unseen. All we need is just a chance to really show ourselves. I hope the coming years lifts you up once more.

        2. No apology necessary, Eric!. πŸ™‚ I didn’t take your response negatively, I just wanted to explain where I was coming from. I’ve enjoyed your story and characters a lot since I discovered them and I’m thankful that you brave the internet to share them with us. Of course I like happy stories, but more importantly I like stories that ring true and feel human, something I find in your storytelling, Eric, and that’s why I keep riding the roller coaster, because I trust that the payoff is always ahead.

Thank you for taking the time to reply, Eric, I appreciate it. πŸ™‚

I agree. Beth is really blowing it this time. The trigger has been when she gets too close to someone, she tends to pull back in the opposite direction. And yeah, Emrys is flawed too. Doing stupid stuff. And haven’t we known people just like them?

      1. “Doing stupid stuff. And haven’t we known people just like them?”

        That is literaly me πŸ˜€

  4. Dang it! I guess the comment system doesn’t like my posts, it keeps screwing them up with weird errors that look like typos or strange copy overs. πŸ™ Hopefully they’re still coherent.
