I just let out an excited whoop. Beth actually got through to Geraldine far easier than I thought. Now, if Geraldine really has accepted that Emrys needs to move on with his life, I hope she gives Beth the credit for changing her mind and tell Emrys to stop gawking at the beautiful girl he’s had the hots for since the first arc and JUST ASK HER OUT!
I do think Geraldine might actually need to give Emrys one hell of a pep talk, though, since Emrys is kind of in limbo right now- no girl, no job, no apartment. Other than his buddies there really isn’t any practical reason to stay in Portland, and Emrys always needs to play the hero (in this case coming to take care of mom) so Geraldine needs to be 100% firm that she can get along fine on her own and at this stage Emrys needs Beth, Jeff, and the others more than her.
One of my all time top ten favorite movies too! So much in fact I lifted a very telling quote from it when Emrys and Stephanie broke up. The final thing he said to her as the door closed.
I’ve only seen that movie once, but I remember Emrys asking Stephanie how someone so beautiful could be so ugly on the inside. I remember the movie being painfully funny, as in I couldn’t breathe from laughing (and ended up with a headache). Hepburn and O’Toole were one of the best pairings I’ve ever seen and those characters are certainly in the top five for best verbal sparring, if not #1. 🙂

So, did Geraldine go thru “I was young too” thanks to Beth? And hence she let Emrys go?
