Well, this turned out exactly as I imagined how it would turn out, except Devon is stupider than I thought because she still had the note IN HER POCKET! Still, I guess the breakup happening now instead of a few months from now is better as we can now return our focus back to the dumpster fire that just arrived to the party (I’m assuming uninvited, yes?)
Really gotta say it is refreshing to see Beth and Emrys be the stable ones for once while the lives of everyone around them go kaplooey.
Who among us hasn’t done something stupid, especially if it was something done out of forgetfulness? Devon just forgot he put the note in her pocket and paid the price. If it was intentional, that would be stupid, but in the end it was just a mistake: a momentary lapse of reason.
Standardly is said “A shit hit a fan.” Here it is diarhea. And Dave “put a crown on it” as we say in Czech. Or as is said in memes “That escalated quickly.”
At the risk of ditto-ing, Gorbi1985, Dave’s arrival could also be described as the rancid garlic icing on the toadstool cake.
Of course, he might be there to seek redemption from the group, and if so, I apologize to him… but, somehow, I doubt it.
And the fiery crash we all saw coming has now happened. The question is, will there be that moment of calm reflection? Will Annabel ever see what she had and what’s been thrown away by one stupid moment of ego on the part of her girlfriend? Or will she prefer to wallow in the pain of what has now escalated in her mind to places reality never went? As discussed already, since there was no previous mention of what happened, no ‘mea culpa’ as it were prior to this note, Annabel is rightfully taking thinking there is more to this than a simple kiss. And in her anger and hurt at the obvious betrayal and cover up and attempt at pre-disclosure recompense (living together)… This could take a lot for her to get over (especially with her past, which she has as an albatross about her neck)… If she ever does. Once again, a lesson in why you need to talk to the one you love and be open and honest with them. If there had been that openness, yes, there would have been pain during the discussion but this blow up probably would never have happened.
Very true. Devon should have been more open with her communication with Annabel. And she could have said it better now, but she was caught off guard and had a hard time communicating past her own guilt. Only time will tell how this plays out.
as much as I hate to say it, but bottom line she really had no business reading the note to begin with, and why didn’t Devon destroy the note? lapse in judgement that is for sure
Panel six nicely captures that feeling of being stuck watching the fiery explosion. And I’m just glad Dave still has his shit together enough to make it to Mateo’s party. He even put on a nice shirt!
Annabel should take a deep breath and give Devon a chance to tell her story about herself and Tori. They should trust each other that much. And I like the artwork in Panel 6.
