Is this even set in 2020? Emrys was living in Portland for whast, two years? And I think the time between Mark’s death and now has only been like a month!
You bring up a good point on time for the comic. Each Main chapter also has a season on it. The first chapter started with Summer, the second chapter was Autumn, the third, Winter. You get the picture. So Each chapter consists of a three month span (roughly). So When Mark died that was in the chapter of Spring, putting his death roughly April. The next chapter was Summer (with all the Rich problems in it) but so is the road trip so I had to divide these last two chapters as Early Summer and Late Summer, putting the current comic sometime in August. As for the year, well, I take the road of ‘current’ but not necessarily actual year. It is, after all, a work of fiction set in a realistic world. I hope that explains my direction when it comes to a workable timeline.
I’m guessing that’s Shannon saying that the traffic is like that all the time? Regardless of who said it, the traffic on I5 here in Washington State is bad enough, I don’t even want to experience L.A.! And the air quality? That’s a deal breaker by itself.
Way back in the dark ages (even before Usenet was A Thing, or anyone at all had a connection) some wag perpetrated “Welcome to the world’s largest parking lot.” I encourage people to visit Kern County and Los Angeles County some summer soon and see which county has thicker air nowadays – last time I was in Glendale (about a decade ago) I could see Mount Wilson from about ten blocks uphill from Glen Oaks Blvd., whereas that same summer I could barely see two miles while transiting Bakersfield.

The freeways were so much clearer when people took covid seriously!

I’ve driven the I-5 in Seattle a time or two. It’s pretty bad also. And seriously, is it always under perpetual construction?

Yes. I avoid it like the Plague. Seattle as well.

Yeah, Bakersfield can have real bad smog, especially when you get that winter inversion layer putting a clamp on everything.
