First off, thank you all for all your great names for Emrys' mom's name. I so appreciate all the great suggestions. After carefully reviewing them and trying to pick the perfect name that fit her the most, I came up with the final three of...Beatrice, Geraldine, or Diana.
But in the end it looks like Emrys' mom will be known as....Geraldine. Thank you both Greg and Patrick for the winning name. You now have official bragging rights to being able to have named a character in the comic.
Sorry if I haven't responded to everyone's comments. Work's been a bitch and my health problems have been lingering a bit this week. I do read everything and I'm immensely grateful for all my loyal readers and commenters. -And Top Web Comic voters! After years of being in the 280-300 range It seems for the first time in forever I'm hovering around 160! Who knows. The comic might one day get on the coveted first page of 1-100. We'll see.
As you can guess, running a little behind on the Midnight Edition. Should be up for Patreons sometime next week.

Eric, I think I can say on behalf of all your readers that BM deserves to be on the first page, to say the least. Congratulations, and may it keep going up. 🙂 As for today’s scene, it seems Emrys hit a flash point by calling Geraldines items “junk.” Nobody likes hearing that, however accurate the description. However I don’t think he deserves being called “irresponsible”- I think that’s an example of projection on G.’s part. I tend to save things I don’t need myself, but when it’s time to move, most of the unnecessary stuff goes.
G
mama is very dysfunctional which explains a lot of Emrys insecurities

I think ChrisH has summed up the situation nicely, especially the note about her projecting her behavior on Emrys. She’s already admitted that she had at least some wild days in her past and that it has taken it’s toll on her body, so it doesn’t speak well to her “responsibility”. Human nature, being what it is, means that everyone interprets things differently due to their own life experiences and circumstances, sometimes even when they know that they are wrong.
Geraldine is aging, alone, in pain, on numerous medications with unknown side effects and has an apparent history of abuse both of herself and Emrys, with who knows what kind of childhood or marriage adding to her mental state. I don’t recall the details already shared about their collective past, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if there are a multitude of factors driving her behavior beyond her physical or emotional discomfort.
Sometimes people, even people who are good at heart, do bad things for reasons only they understand, which is why it’s difficult to ever truly know a person. The most we can expect of ourselves or others is to try and communicate clearly, in whatever [non-violent] form that takes, and be patient with one another. This can be a Herculean task sometimes, and maybe not even one you can take on yourself, especially with someone like Geraldine or Stephanie, but ultimately it serves everyone better than the pain caused by a lack of concern for our fellow human beings. Observe social media platforms for a few minutes and you’ll find all the evidence you need that society needs to reintegrate some “old fashioned” values.

In the last panel I can hear Popeye the Sailor intoning, “That’s all I can stands! I can’t stands no more!” One hopes that this is a spine-stiffening experience for Emrys, as nobody deserves the sort of psychic abuse his mother is dishing out.
