904 Bridges Burned

I'll have the names of Devon's Parents next week as well as an optimistic update with future BN postings.

  1. Time to get on the phone and spread the word!

    1. That´s the Spirit 🙂

  2. Somehow I don’t think Devin is the sort of petty person to get on the phone and spread the word to the rest of the family. This is just so sad. But then again, we know it’s not all sunshine and rainbows in this world. As for her parents. There are many religious parents who think nothing of disowning their lgbtqia children. I’ll never understand people like that.

    1. It doesn’t take much though. Just stop censoring what you post online, stop watching your pronouns when talking to old neighborhood friends and distant family. It gets around quick, especially in the sort of conservative community that considers it hot gossip.

  3. Okay enough crying, time for some serious feeling better sex!

    1. First the comfort version, then a bit later, the mutually celebratory version.

  4. I remember ripping this band-aid off with my parents. It sucked. It hurt. It was absolutely brutal. I was fortunate enough that my dad tried to understand, but my mother told me that I was wrong. It took a long while, but they are starting to be okay with it and they want to be in my life again. I know it is not this way with most people and I count myself lucky that they have grown so much that they are able to accept me.

TLDR: she did the right thing. If they can not love you for YOU then they do not deserve your time.

  5. Also, bonus note: if anyone ever hears about Zealotous Christian family members disowning their underaged LGBTQ children, I recommend you refer them to 1 Timothy 5:8. It is a great verse that says those who abandon their family are worse than an unbeliever.

  6. It seems to me that homophobia is rooted in sexophobia. Let’s all face the facts, (various kinds of) sex happens, like it or not. The only truly bad kinds involve violence, threats, deception, and power imbalances.

    1. may i suggest modifying that to non-consensual violence and power imbalances? i know people who live happily with both consensually.

  7. @Grace, yes, you’re right, consent is a key factor. As in “age of consent” for example.

  8. Cue Phil Collins “I don’t Care Anymore”
