#944 Drive by Dumping

so the Kickstarter for the second book has met its goal! Color me surprised.

So now it's editing and getting the book to print along with the extras as well.

I just want to say thank you to everyone who contributed! Some of you went far and above what I expected. Thank you!

As for not commenting on the comments section lately, I'm sorry. I told myself I'd try and respond to comments more. I kinda fell off there. But I'll try better. Even if it's just a short response.

And yes, I agree with most of you. Dave is kind of a tool and not my favorite character, especially if I met him in real life, but he is fun to write. You can't have all the character likable. You got to have some antagonists and Dave fits that bill.

  1. Yeah, 24 is total fossil for 18 years old. But Dave got it quite well, no drama, no punching things(yet), not even being childish. Negotiation is allowed 🙂 And yes, Dave is that “Why am I friend friend with you?” guy 🙂

And big yaaay for book. Great product and strong advertising can makes miracles. Looking forward to have it.

Thank you. I’m glad it’s finally seeing print too.

  2. I think that Katie realizes that she has something Dave hasn’t got – ambition.

I’m not sure she has a lot of ambition, but she knows not to be tied down to Dave.

  3. I must admit, Katie could have treated Dave much worse, like just kicking him out of the car. Well, what did he expect? I don’t believe many one-night stands turn into long-term relationships. Smarten up, Dave.

    1. I guess it could work here. But one side was interested only in skating and sex. While other side wanted something more to make it a relationship. That’s where it died. Which makes me second John Gardner.

In the same way that he was too old for her, she was just too young for him.

  4. At least she just ripped the bandage off and came out with it.

Looks like she wants more out of life than just sex and skating. Good for her. Dave really needs to realize there’s more to life before he gets left even further behind.

True. and that happens to a lot of people though.

  5. Kate showed a level of maturity by dumping Dave. And it happened organically; no one told her to do it, she just wasn’t into him and let him go. Sex and skating is fun, but it gets stale if you do it with someone who has no real plans for the future. I wonder if he’s going to blame Beth, though, since Beth was clearly against them hooking up (though she founds out mere minutes before Kate dumped him.)

Now, what’s going to become of Dave’s buddy? The author mentioned that Kate is 18 and legally an adult, but her friends? I think Dave might go to jail just by association….

  6. Damn, the last 18 year old I hooked up with told me the same thing! Go figure!

    1. Alas… I remember it well.

  7. I guess this is one of those situations where people nowadays say “sorry, not sorry”? I am sorry to see Dave hurt, but not sorry that Katie is looking for a more than just hedonistic pursuits. Life has more to offer than that and I hope Dave takes a little time to reflect on his own, like Shannon has done since Mark’s death. The sad truth is that no one is to blame when you don’t handle the reins in your life except you. You might have a terrible start, your family might be awful, you may have traumas that haunt you your whole life, but at some point you just have to do the best you can for your own sake, like most of these characters are trying to do. Dave is only twenty-four, there’s still lots of time to make more of his life than he has right now and find a little happiness. I hope he finds and works his way towards it.
P.S. I’m really sorry I missed out on the Kickstarter, Eric. Life has been…expensive lately…and I missed my opportunity. Maybe there will be reprints in the future and I can buy one then.

    1. Well said about Dave.
As for the book, I will be printing extra that will be in my store front in Etsy and Storenvy.

  8. “Drive By Dumping” is an amusing title. Katie certainly dumped Dave as her lover. At least she didn’t dump him on the sidewalk too. 😉

    1. well…kind of. 😉
