Whoa…the return of Mateo! Now you know it’s serious, which is good for all of them, but probably best yet for Shannon. Fortunately they’ve moved into some of the good memories of Mark already, so I think they’ll all pull through this sooner rather than later, even though the loss will remain.
I agree, you have definitely developed as an artist since the first page, particularly with lighting and finer details. I’m always impressed by the ambitious angles you choose, particularly for close-ups on faces, and, even if they don’t always look quite right (sometimes it might just be a need for additional shading for depth?), the fact that you are willing to attempt them to tell the story the way you want to tell it is very admirable. Drawing people with proper proportions consistently, let alone from awkward angles, is one of the most difficult challenges for an artist, and I’ve seen comments from other professional comic artists (like Dave Barrack, creator of Grrl Power) attesting to it. Keep doing what you’re doing and you’ll keep on improving, because you already have good skill and instincts for the layout of your scenes, and that is something that other artists balk at or try to avoid entirely.
Wow. This really made my day reading this. Thank you so much for writing in. I will continue to to try to do my best. It may not always be perfect, but I’ll continue to always strive to do better.
