Truth be told most of us will never achieve our dreams. But that does not mean we should stop dreaming and aspiring. In the end life is about being kind, being fair and being in the moment.
In the end, you can’t take it with you, but what you leave behind matters, at least for a generation…
I can relate, most of my peers are retired now, and the reality is, some of us achieved our dreams, but most of us did not, dreams are just that, dreams, and happiness is often found in the pursuit – – doesn’t mean we didn’t try hard enough, doesn’t mean we don’t have regrets, but achieving dreams is not always what it is made out to be, satisfaction with one’s life in spite if a few regrets is the key to a life well lived
I had several thoughts what to write for this page, and my final thought is, if I was at least able to withstand some discomfort, I should have been 6 feet under for more than 11 years. So I am living over plan. And that makes planning and dreaming what to in life quite hard.
One of the main influences in writing this was the way I felt in my twenties (and thirties…and forties.) But also this song I came across by Reagan Beem: Kid in my twenties, which really sums it all up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yxwOS2VWoQ
I guess I’m not the only one then. 🙂 Would have been nice to have had it “all figured out” like Mateo, but some of us are a little slower to figure things out.
I didn’t figure it out. Period. Meanwhile, I’ve just been extraordinarily lucky – with my family, with my career, and with various choices that I made over time. I was given various tests before I could even study the material, and didn’t find out until much later whether I’d passed.
Still and all, I couldn’t have managed as well as I have if I hadn’t had some sort of guide stone, for which I bless my wife.
A suitable partner who has your back, and a bloody-minded approach to making things work out somehow, are at least necessary elements for succeeding (for given values of “success” – some flexibility is required).
