  1. That house is as ruined as is Dave’s life.

      A perfect metaphor.

  2. That house is probably the reason why Dave’s life is as fycked as is

      In more ways than one.

  3. Oh boy. 🙁

      Right?

  4. Those aren’t Dave’s childhood drawings on the wall next to the big fish … are they?

I find it hard to believe that Mr. Voigt would keep anything sentimental about his son, so probably not. Probably some crappy pictures that I didn’t add much detail to thinking the word balloons might cover anyway. 🙂

  5. This goes along way to explaining a lot about Dave.

  6. Geeze, and I thought Emrys’s mom and Devon’s parents were bad… though I wonder if Dave’s dad was more the neglectful, non-caring parent rather than the overly controlling parents Emrys and Devon have…

    1. I would say non caring. At best. When he did care, it was an abuse.

  7. Sooo, finding the smokes is like playing “Where’s Waldo”?

hahah. yes, I guess it is.

  8. “… That God-forsaken hellhole I call home
Keeps me coming back again, no matter where I roam
Squalid as Calcutta, as decadent as Rome
    That God-forsaken hellhole I call home…”

      I like that! That’s a good fit.

  9. Hmm… Don’t anyone judge the old man, we don’t know his circumstances, what happened in his life. Remember, Dave is a junkie, so probably not the best of relationships between the two of them. I don’t see a mother anywhere, so somewhere along the line she died or ran off the with root-rooter guy or whatever. This doesn’t look like a place comenserate with the others either. It’s been depicted as borderline livable and that says a lot as well. There is of course, more tragedy here, but we haven’t delved into it in our story (yet). As for the politics… Well, Eric, you do have a heavy hand with some political types and we see it once again with ‘the progenitor’… Not really comfortable calling him a father or a ‘Dad’, since he’s not doing so hot at either (obviously). As far as Dave goes… For a moment, you almost want to give him an excuse to be a total poop. But he doesn’t actually have one, nobody does… While your upbringing has a lot to do with your temperament and such, it’s not going to turn you into… Well… Dave. Just saying.

I agree. Dave, at the end of the day, is still the one person in charge of his life -all the good and bad. I only showed a glimpse of Dave’s family life to show it started out rough but still not to say that was the whole reason. Still, it adds some elements as to why Dave is how he is.
I’ll be diving into a lot of the character’s family in this chapter and Dave just happened to be the first one on the docket.

  10. You know they say you can’t smell a picture but,,,

1001 A Sort of Homecoming

And we're back with a new chapter!

This one will go through meeting some new minor characters like a lot of family members but also a few new twists. Enjoy.

This opener post turned out to be four pages long, so the first two this week and the other two next week.
